I absolutely loved every second of this book. I’m especially glad I listened to it too because I found it so much more emotional and hard-hitting hearing it in John Green’s own voice. Each essay was so well researched and beautifully phrased and funny, hopeful, interesting, overwhelming all at once. I immediately want to read the whole thing again and desperately didn’t want it to end.

my favorite part of any john green book has always been his writing. the plots and characters have always been secondary to john’s world view and unique prose shining though them. so this book was a dream.
reading a handful of these essays every few weeks was such a lovely way to consume this book. john green’s tiktoks and tweets and the likes all have such a specially human quality to them, and seeing that exemplified in long form is so fulfilling. there is truly no one else who could make me give 2 fucks about the indy 500.
godbless john green and his lovely little mind

I enjoyed the fault in our stars when I read it like 10 years ago, but I found the rest too YA’y. I don’t think his writing was really showcased in his other books. With his essays, I found them very well written and interesting. It reminded me a lot of Matt haig’s books because there is some focus on mental health.

An absolute masterpiece, a work of art, a gingko tree, an orbital sunrise, immunity, and a new partner.
Read this to feel human.
