A great sequel to a spectacular book, Sanderson switched gears significantly to deliver a lot more information on the Cosmere in this one. The scope of the series has broadened significantly, and I learned *so* much from the different arcs in this book.

I wish a select few characters had received more attention, as one particular one is getting short-changed throughout this series. They had two very strong moments I really loved, but I would love for them to develop more.

The ending sequence to this book was strong, but very different from the previous books. I was still a big fan, though! 9/10

This book is so damn good. Each book in the series is better than the last as the world building deepens and we see more of each character's journey. I miss Kaladin already! One of my favorite things about this series is how the plot evolves, as it moves forward, rather than just expands. The scope of the story remains focused and doesn't get mired down, as in other stories. *Cough Robert Jordan.* I also love how Sanderson plays with tropes- some expectations are immediately foiled and while the emotional payoff is always there, it rarely happens in an expected way. It's so damn good. Also, I loved Rabonial (spelling? I listened to the audiobook) as a character. She was such a complex "villian" and her relationship with Navani was multi-layered and fascinating. Now I feel grumpy because I have to wait for more! Also, I appreciated how the books have explored progressively darker themes, like trauma, addiction, and mental health, without getting lost in them. The books have some dark themes, without being dark themselves.

Damn it, you genius, Sanderson! Now I have to read everything else in the Cosmere! *oh no*

Finally, I think it's this book that references an innkeeper in a quiet bar and in my head cannon, it's clearly a nod to Kvothe.
