This book was a solid 3.5 stars.

I'm not a second chance girlie. I usually find the trope boring and anticlimactic because they are already together. Like I know romance ends in an HEA so really there is not a surprise that the couple gets together but for some reason if the couple starts together I just get a little turned off.

But this book did it well. I really did like Aiden and Freya from the get go. They are both so self aware of their flaws but love each other so much to work on it. I loved Freya's no shit attitude but also overly large heart. I love how relatable Aiden was with the struggles of just life and his anxiety. They really are such a strong couple that you have to root for them to make it.

The Bergman siblings were perfect side characters in this. Their love of both Aiden and Freya brought tears to my eyes. The Bergman parents are just everything.

It was fun even if it wasn't my favorite. Can't wait for Axel and Rooney though. Bring it on.

Surprisingly my favourite of the series so far! I didn’t think that a marriage in crisis trope would be my cup of tea but this was so beautifully written and so genuine that you really felt for the characters and their love story. This book also gives you more of a taste of the future story lines and I am so excited to continue the series ✨

Tropes/Themes:
-MF contemporary romance
-Marriage in trouble
-Opposites attract
-Forced proximity
-Closed knit family (with some added found family vibes)
-Curvy heroine
-Mental/chronic illness rep (anxiety – MMC, autism – side characters, RA – side character)
-Own voices author
-Dual POV
-Book #3 in an interconnected standalone series, each book features a different sibling of the Bergman family.

Since book #7 in the Bergman Brothers series just dropped, I'm doubling back to read a few of the titles I haven't gotten to yet. I initially skipped this book because I don't normally enjoy marriage in trouble romances. While I'm still not a fan of the trope as whole, I found this a worth while installment overall. I think my main issue with marriage in trouble is that I can’t help but find myself “siding” with one of the characters in the relationship, which ends up skewing my perception of how the conflict/groveling is handled. I struggled a little bit with feeling like Aiden was the one having to take full responsibility for the discord in the relationship and being responsible for all of the groveling, but I know I was personalizing that a little bit. I loved all of the shenanigans we got from the rest of the Berman clan and am excited to finally see the last few siblings get their HEA.

CWs for anxiety, parental abandonment, alcoholism, poverty (in childhood), marriage counseling, postpartum depression (mentioned)

Story: 3/5
Audiobook: 5/5
