Really cute. A little preachy at points. I'll definitely read the next book, but didn't feel compelled to start it immediately.

My reaction to this book:

I can’t tell you how glad I am that I have finally read the treasure that is The House in the Cerulean Sea. I am going to find it so hard to describe how much I love this book and how annoyed I am at myself for owning it for so long before actually reading it!!
“Just because you don’t experience prejudice in your everyday doesn’t stop it from existing for the rest of us.”
This is such a precious story about Linus a pencil pushing, to the letter, orphanage case worker, who gets assigned to assess an orphanage full of the most dangerous magical kids. Linus believes in the work he’s doing and just wants the best for everyone involved, but we can see he’s just a cog in a large corporate machine that’s lost sight of it’s true purpose, helping kids.
“Your voice is a weapon. Never forget that.”
One day a new assignment challenges Linus' beliefs about the world and forces him to face the facts about what he is complicit in working for the tyrannical organisation responsible for much of his new friends pain.
“We should always make time for the things we like. If we don't, we might forget how to be happy.”
Linus is a beautiful man that has a beautiful journey lead by some beautiful people. It’s Full of funny moments, heartwarming children, and a lot of fantastical oddities I don't know how it's not possible to fall in love with these people and their story.
“A home isn't always the house we live in. It's also the people we choose to surround ourselves with.”
The writing style is unique and wonderful which also pulls you in. It’s got a mystical, childlike vibe to it that feels a little lemony snicket like to me somehow a dreary yet vibrant world where the prose seems plain but packs a punch.
Even though I've just finished it I can't wait to read it again and I have immediately added more TJ Klune to my TBR
