Nature writing 👎. No poems stood out as favourites, some nice lines now and again but not an enticing collection.

I picked this one up second-hand after having a line from the poem 'At a Potato Digging' reverberating in my head since high school (the line being, "spill / libations of cold tea, scatter crusts"), and I'm very glad I did, having not read much of Seamus Heaney's poetry before. Like often with poetry books, this is one I'll need to read multiple times to get the most out of, but it was enjoyable and informative to read (out loud, to myself) his reflections on Northern Ireland, farming, nature, and life.

Very rustic poetry, not really my thing, but was pleasant to read. Read loads of these for my GCSE so was nice to revisit them.

"I wanted to grow up and plough,
To close my eyes, stiffen my arm.
All I ever did was follow
In his broad shadow round the farm.

I was a nuisance, tripping, falling,
Yapping always. But today
It is my father who keeps stumbling
Behind me, and will not go away."

Was a wonderful collection, a truthful ode to the land, life in the countryside, and just a bewitching description of Irish rural life. Heaney's incredible depiction of family, love and experience is magnificently executed.
