Pey works an office job, except the office is in hell and his job is to make deals for human’s souls.

The book is told from the perspective of Pey, as well as several members of the Harrison family, who Pey is tracking to make a 5th generation deal.

Pey’s perspective is like he’s actually telling the reader a story, which works really well with some of the humor in the book. I wouldn’t call this book scary, although it’s classified as a horror, but it’s hell so there are definitely darker topics throughout (see content warnings if that’s a possible concern).

This book surprised me in a lot of good ways! I didn’t know what to expect, but what I got was a twisty, shocking tale full of cynicism and hope, darkness and heart. And best of all, this book really makes you think: about goodness, about love, about choices.
I was impressed with all of the threads the plot kept up with. I guessed some things along the way, but a lot of it still ended up surprising me.

Not at all my typical go-to book, but hey— it’s spooky season! I’m so glad I went outside my comfort zone; and given the premise of this book, I stayed there.

Claudia Lux does a superb job of building two worlds and the characters within. I had a nagging suspicion that SOMETHING was about to happen, but I couldn’t figure out who, or to whom, or what it would be. I felt somewhat rushed along at the end when both storylines were coming to a conclusion, and while I felt surprised (in a good way!) by the end, I realized after some thinking I had lingering questions about some plot holes.

Am I going to dive head first into this spooky suspenseful genre? Nope, I’m going right back to rom coms, thank you! But I will recommend this book, and I will keep an eye out for anything else this author writes.

I read this book start to finish in one day while sick in bed. The moment I picked it up, I couldn't put it down and wanted to get to the resolution. The story was light, snarky, and refreshing as a new take on making a deal with the devil, while still being very dark and morbid. This makes me think of a cross of The Good Place and Dead Like Me. Some subject matter felt iffy and unnecessary to the plot,
especially the parts that veered on pedophilia for Silas.
I also think the least "tight" part of the story was the HR report. It felt like it didn't match the style of an HR report and gave too much narrative/emotion, which brought me out of the story trying to skim to the next part. The backstory that is brought up in the report is important to a part of the story, but imo was a little boring and could have been shorten considerably. That is the only reason I'm not giving this a straight 5.
