Huge fan of Jen Lancaster memoirs. I found her fiction just as funny, thought provoking, warm and witty!!!

A solid 3.5 from listening to the audiobook. I was not expecting that plot twist.
I have such mixed feelings about this book. I love Jen Lancaster's nonfiction but I'm not really a fan of her fiction. I got very frustrated with all of the miscommunication and half truths everyone told. I ended up really liking the female friendship and how history goes a long way to patch things up. Kitty Carricoe and Jack Jordan have hated each other ever since things went badly wrong when they were roommates in college. A tragedy happens and they have to try to pretend to get along well enough to help their shared best friend.
Jack's best friend is Sars and Kitty's best friend is Betsy. Sars and Betsy are the same person and we get to see her life through the eyes of her best friends. The writing is funny, sarcastic, and witty mixed with constant Top Gun references (watch the movie first if you haven't seen it). The characters are stubborn, flawed, but very loveable. How their friendships fall apart and come back together is a wonderful beach, or rainy day, read. But, as a surprise, there is a bit more than fluff to the story. And that was the best part!

Having experienced a crazy friend who divided friendships, this book resonated with me. Especially at the end (seriously, there was some bar shit crazy there with this chick and a group of us!) Great surprise at the end, twice. One you kinda work out and see coming, one you might not. Both well written - a tough thing to accomplish as a writer these days with Gone Girl stakes.
Lots of funny moments and memorable characters. Don't think for a minute this is a mystery novel though. Sherlock is certainly not necessary to figure out just where this plot is headed.
This does suffer from far too many romance novel style tropes though. The end really smacks of a need to have all the loose ends neatly tied and leaves none of the characters with any uncertainty as to their happily ever after.

I'm a little surprised how much I liked this book. The "girlfriend" genre usually isn't my thing but the author did a great job writing in two voices, complete with two perspectives on the same fight. Great escapist read
