This is an inspiring story about a horse who was rescued by a sanctuary and refused to give up even though the odds were against them. Pumpkin endures illness and 4 deformed legs but with the help of the sanctuary and others is brought back to health to live a full life. A good story for teaching compassion for animals and others.
Jersey and I read this book together. I learned a lot about miniature horses and animal sanctuaries.

The book was too repetitive - even for a children's book. I researched the Twist of Fate Farm and found out Ashley has been charged with 17 counts of animal cruelty and the details of it are pretty horrific. It took away any small enjoyment I had from the book.
Good story that needed an editor in the worst way. The repetition of how everyone was feeling, how difficult the journey would be, and the fact that they're taking care of animals drew away from the main story. It was monotonous. If my daughter, who I was reading the book to, hadn't wanted to hear what happened with Pumpkin so badly, this would be in my DNF list.
We love animals at our house. We always have. So when we came across this book at my daughters' book fair, we knew we had to have it. I decided to read this aloud with my daughters, ages 10 and 3 during quarantine. Learning about Pumpkin and her friends was very touching and emotional. Pumpkin gave us an opportunity to talk about animals and our responsibility to them. After reading this book, my 10-year-old is determined to work at an animal sanctuary.
I would highly recommend reading this book. The writing is fairly simple but the story is beautiful.

This book is adorable. This book tells the story of dwarf pony Pumpkin, Pumpkin’s mom Thea and animal rescuers Ashley and Deacon.
I really like how this book tells the story of rehabing a pony through different perspectives including the animals. I think for young people it might become hard to imagine what life is like for animals. This way of writing really shows different perspectives in an attainable way for young readers. I also really appreciated the amount of facts and information provided in this book.
I look forward to adding this to my library to share with students.
