Brighter Than The Sun by Julia Quinn

Blurb

When Charles Wycombe, the dashing and incorrigible Earl of Billington, toppled out of a tree and landed at Ellie Lyndon‘s feet, neither suspected that such an inauspicious meeting would lead to marriage. But Charles must find a bride before his thirtieth birthday or he’ll lose his fortune. And Ellie needs a husband or her father’s odious fiancée will choose one for her. And so they agree to wed, even though their match appears to have been made somewhere hotter than heaven…

Ellie never dreamed she’d marry a stranger, especially one with such a devastating combination of rakish charm and debonair wit. She tries to keep him at arm’s length, at least until she discovers the man beneath the handsome surface. But Charles can be quite persusasive—even tender—when he puts his mind to it, and Ellie finds herself slipping under his seductive spell. And as one kiss leads to another, this unlikely pair discovers that their marriage is not so inconvenient after all… and just might lead to love.

My Opinion

I was gifted this series after discovering a love for Julia Quinn's writing. For me this series wasn't as good as the Bridgerton books but they were enjoyable. A fun intriguing read with some enjoyable characters. Both of the books in this series can be read as a standalone, but do not read these books expecting them to be like The Bridgerton series.

Why is the first book in this duet so horrible and this one actually pretty fun?
I liked their banter and Charles was a waaaayy better mmc than the other guy (who was just awful). I just loved Ellie, she was great and funny.

Marriage of convenience/marriage to a relative stranger is always an interesting dynamic.

The premise: Two strangers wed for their own pressing reasons. While Charles Wycombe and his new bride Eleanor Lyndon attempt to make a marriage, someone seems out to murder one or both of them.

Miscellaneous notes: The entire family's interactions with each other really made this book. I have one question for the author: What's with Charles' obsession with Ellie's red hair?

This book started off so strong! Snappy, fun banter between the two main characters that felt very Gilmore Girls-esq. But as it went on, my issue was with the plot - lots of issues are coming up around the manor and being blamed on Ellie, the heroine, so the staff and her husband distrust her. And then the fourth act conflict is outrageous and out of left field.

It’s Time for a little confession: I love this book. There is nothing like snuggling up with a blanket, a cup of tea and a really good novel on a rainy day, don’t you agree? Brighter Than The Sun serves this purpose perfectly. It’s a light, bright and (coincidentally) sunny read. Even better, it’s sure to cheer you up when the weather is grim, and really, what more could you ask for? This is the first book I read by Julia Quinn and before I started it, I don’t mind admitting I was a little sceptical. I’m very picky when it comes to historical fiction as it’s so easy to get it horribly wrong but Quinn avoids this. The reason is that Eleanor is so engaging (http://wp.me/p31aol-D)
