I read the Finnish translation, which was unfortunately not good. Also, this book is more of a look into the political history told from a viewpoint of Merkel. The lack of first hand sources harms the book, and I failed to understand why the author was included in the narration. There was nothing much to learn about Merkel, apart from the awfully often repeated fact that she has a sicentific education.

This was absolutely extraordinary.
Yes, I am entirely biased by being the story of the public figure that has been my inspiration for over 15 years. But still.
As she is an extremely private person (and rightfully so!), there is not much to go with from her side, so the author managed to get multiple accounts of people that were also there, as well as speeches and public pictures and accounts. I cannot imagine how hard is to right a book where the source is so private. Which, of course, makes it more interesting for the reader.
This was the type of book that I saved pages, not wanting it to end, put the audiobook in slower speed just to linger a bit more.
My only down point is that, due to the lack of material about Merkel's thoughts, the author had many times to guess or make assumptions of what was going on in the politicians head, which I cannot think of another way to do it given the circumstances, but at the same time, de legitimizes the discourse in some moments.
I did not even bother to highlight or bookmark passages because there were so many amazing ones that I simply left myself to savor the words.

Just not a good book. No analysis or even interesting anecdotes.

Angela Merkel was Germanys chancellor for 6 years, before I moved to the US. For six years she lead the country I called home. I know not everyone was a fan of her, but I think she brought something to the table that was not common at the time: being a woman in charge. She will be missed for her honesty, clarity and wisdom.

This biography was well written and talked about things I didn’t know about Frau Merkel.

Very interesting and informative. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to read this book! I find Angela Merkel to be extremely interesting and this book is truly amazing. The Chancellor is well-written and extremely well researched. I really loved reading about Angela Merkel and Kati Morton did an excellent job.
