I LOVE KATIE MCGARRY'S BOOKS.they will make feel all of different emotions. every time i read on of her books there is always someway you can relate to her characters. you will not want to put the book down once you start. there is a twist at every turn. i truly love this book and i can not wait to read the next one.

4.5
This book almost got a five stars but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I got annoyed by some things although I can't remember what they were exactly and, while one of my top fictional boyfriends did fight circles (Travis Maddox from Beautiful Disaster), the intense fighting elements sometimes freaked me out.
Hopefully if Katie McGarry comes out with a book about Abby or Jax I'll be able to give one of her books five stars.

Thank you to Mira Ink for the copy of this novel! :)

Haley - fierce yet loyal - was just trying to live her life, although going through hell, still trying not to draw attention to herself. After quitting being a champion kickboxer, she didn't look back once. Not until she met West, that is. He's everything she swore she would never get involved in again, but she felt like she owed him something after standing up for her from her idiot ex-boyfriend in a fight that starts off a ricochet of events that would change both of their lives forever.
Violent fights and standoffs lead to West getting challenged to a fight - and Haley gets wrapped into training him. He's all-talk and she had her work cut out for her, but the more they melt into each other's lives and secrets, the closer they become and the harder it becomes to ignore their strong connection. After swearing not to step in the ring again, Haley finds it hard at first, but once she does, she feels the adrenaline that she used to feel and how doing what she loved made her feel. But with her ex-boyfriend stepping out from every shadow and West creeping into her thoughts, Haley's life is far from perfect, not to mention how her family is falling apart with every passing day.
West's life is far from perfect, also. His sister; Rachel, was in an accident that he knows he had a fault in. The guilt weighs heavy on him and a dark shadow appears over his life like a rain cloud. But when Haley comes into his life and starts to change him for the better, he starts to realize that she helped not only his fighting but the ways of everything, with every new unveiling of his life leading to a shock unveiling in his family secrets.
Take Me On challenges Crash Into You for having two of my favourite characters... read more.

Well, Katie McGarry has done it again...at least for me! I have read all of her titles within the past few months and have not been disappointed in the least. Though these are your typical teenage romance drama-- tragic boy meets tragic girl and they try not to fall in love with each other, it is done in a way that is totally readable. All the characters are relatable and likable, and I can especially see my students being able to relate to them. This is the story of Haley and West, who is a character from the previous story Crash Into You. Haley grew up in a typical home with a fairly normal family...until her dad got laid off from his job. With a struggle to find a new job, they have had to move into her uncle's home, a man who is despicable to say the least. Haley used to be a titleholder for fighting and quit due to an unfortunate incident with an ex-boyfriend. She meets West in her run-down neighborhood by chance and they protect one another against someone trying to steal from Haley. West is then kicked out of his home and starts attending Haley's school, and thus their love story begins. He is challenged to a "legal" fight by Haley's ex and starts training with her, not knowing her past with fighting. Throughout the story, Haley struggles with accepting her feelings for West, while West struggles with his family and the struggles they are going through. Though West's father tries to convince him to ditch Haley and go back to the way his life used to be, West proves that Haley is worth fighting for and does the right thing. This will definitely be another title that I recommend to my student's next school year, as well as Katie's other titles. I am looking forward to the next book in the series that goes back to the characters in the first title. I like that you get to know a little about what's going in all of the other character's lives in each story, allowing you to keep up with those you have really come to love.

I am a huge fan of Katie McGarry's stories. I love her characters and their relationships together and I've always fallen hard her main characters and the love interests. I love how complicated and emotional everything feels and while I love some characters and relationships more than others, I've still also really enjoyed the character journeys and could feel strong things about where these stories were going. ...And then I read Take Me On, her latest companion novel, this time focusing on the lives and loves of West and Hayley. And for the first time, I've felt disappointed in the story and where it went. And for that, I feel very sad.

Take Me On is told from both Hayley and West's perspective. I believe the events of the story are told in tandem to other events in the same series. Hayley and West are both going through some difficult times. West has been kicked out of his house by his parents and Hayley is also experiencing really difficult issues with her family. She's living with a strict uncle who seems to bear some sort of grudge against her and her family and to be honest, none of Hayley's felt 'real' to me. I just didn't connect to this aspect of the story and this emotional distance made it very hard to relate to Hayley and her story.

Hayley and West first meet as Hayley is on her way home and gets jumped by some neighbourhood kids and West jumps in to help not knowing that Hayley is in fact a kickboxing champion ranked nationally. Soon after this, West feels slightly responsible for certain things and he ends up accepting a fight on Hayley's behalf. This fight is one West cannot win without help from Hayley and the two of them decide to join together, pretend to be boyfriend and girlfriend and train together for this upcoming fight.

I think part of my issue with this book is that there was too much macho posturing for my liking and a lot of attitude and some mysterious code of conduct involving honour felt slightly outdated for me. And West and Hayley both get wrapped up in this and also sort of wrapped up in what other people think they should be. West feels the need to fight in order to prove how manly he is and Hayley seems intent on keeping everything hurting her to herself ... and I didn't especially enjoy reading about either scenario. I think a lot of the drama could have been avoided by both Hayley and West opening up to those closest to them and having an honest conversation in which questions are asked and confessions are made. And for whatever reason, I just didn't have quite the patience or compassion for how difficult that is to do for these two characters. During the middle and the ending of this book I just wanted to shout 'get there quicker!' and be done with it.

I don't think that this is a bad story at all, it's just a story that didn't appeal to me specifically. I do still adore Katie McGarry and will always eagerly look out for any new books by her, but unfortunately this time I just didn't fall in love like I was expecting.

Haley has a national kickboxing title, but for the past 6 months she has refused to fight. Only one person knows why she stopped, and it is in his best interest not to tell. While coming home from getting her father’s medication she is forced with a choice. Let a stranger get beaten protecting her, or step in and fight the assailant. When school resumes she discovers that the mysterious stranger is now the new kid and he has his eyes on her. To make matters worse, he steps in (again) when she is confronted about the assault. In order to save face, West must fight a MMA cage match. Although he is a boxer, MMA is not the same. Haley decides she won’t fight, but she will help West train.

Take Me On is the newest and most thought provoking of the Pushing the Limits books. The first three books had a bad boy and good girl, but this book shakes the pattern up. West is rich but has a temper. Haley’s father lost his job a year earlier and she will do anything to keep her family together. Throw in fighting rivalry, family rifts on both sides and secrets that threaten to tear both people apart and you have a book you can’t put down. McGarry has really outdone herself with this book. It goes beyond a romance novel and touches on issues that most people can relate to, even if they never experienced it themselves. Can Haley get West ready in time? Will either of their families ever be whole again? Fans of the previous books will enjoy the cameo appearances of the characters from those books!

Loved it.
Hating parents is kind become a pattern in this series for me.
Echos parents sucked.
Ryan's parents sucked
Rachel's suck.
And since West is her brother so did West's.
