It didnt hook me up at first, and I didnt have any expectations, but the direction the story took was something unexpected. I dont like things that I can’t predict but this is one exception.

Although it doesnt align with my faith, I feel like it reflects the worldbuilding the author is trying to convey which makes it even more endearing to read.

Definitely solid given its sort of cliffhanger ending (it ended well but it made me want a sequel 🥲)z

“A borrowed life is better than none”

A day may come when I rate one of these Tor short stories 3 stars or less, but that day is not today. Exceptionally well-written, [b:Circus Girl, The Hunter, and Mirror Boy|43565762|Circus Girl, The Hunter, and Mirror Boy|J.Y. Yang|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1548963354l/43565762._SY75_.jpg|67781446] grabs your attention and does not let it go until the very last line. The story is told from the perspectives of the titular characters - Circus Girl, The Hunter, and Mirror Boy - in order, and it really helps keep the suspense.

was super excited to read this because i had read waiting on a bright moon by the same author and liked it lots!! really fun premise, the story follows circus girl (lynette) who is haunted by the ghost of mirror boy. she then finds out that a hunter is after her. some nice paranormal elements and an overall interesting plot, especially for a short story. i loved this just as much as waiting on a bright moon because the author's style is just as stunning here.
