Wow. That’s all I can say. This book has truly moved me. I was in tears reading the last sentence. The Nightingale will keep you guessing until the last page. It will tear at your heart strings, and it won’t stop pulling until you close the book. This is the most beautiful book I have read and I am very excited to read more Kristin Hannah!

One of the most deeply moving, harrowing, heartbreaking and phenomenal stories I’ve ever read.
Kristen Hannah does not steer away from the horrors of WWI, and in doing so tells a beautifully heartbreaking tale of bravery, loyalty, courage and love. The characters of Vianne and Isabelle are so perfectly written; I loved them both from the moment I started reading. The side characters are also incredibly written, with a story so profound and horrifying it is almost incomprehensible that such things happened less than 100 years ago.
This story will stick with me for a long, long time. I am so glad I’ve read it, but I write this emotionally-charged review with tears streaming down my face.
Five stars without a doubt.

The majority of the book was very slow moving which made it hard to read. Some parts of the book were really hard to read. Had to read a sentence and put the book down for a while.

A perfect book! Hannah makes you feel like you’re experiencing along with the characters. I learn so much from her writings. Understanding what not only the Jewish people went through during WWII is something everyone should be aware of. Especially during current times when hate is once again being spewed in regards to specific ethnicities & sexual orientation. It really makes you wonder what was learned from the past. Everyone should read this book!

An absolutely heartbreaking yet triumphant story of love - romantic, familial and platonic - during WWII in France.
I was rooting for these characters’ survival every step of the way and I loved how Kristin Hannah wrote of Paris and the use of French throughout the story.
The content of this book is very raw, real, and heavy, but it really put in perspective just how hard life was during those times.
I was broken at the end but also deeply satisfied and I’m still thinking about it.

"If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are."
I fear I will never be the same after reading this book. I think we often take for granted how strong women are during war and how much of their bravery is left unacknowledged in comparison to men. both these characters, Isabella and Vianne were so strong in two completely different ways and I can't even imagine the despair they had to go through. I think the author portrayed the struggles that both these types women faced- Isabelle who was courageous and bold had such a hard time by the end of the book and Vianne who was a typically more 'feminine and meek' character really displayed how quietly courageous she was, for the sake of her love for her children and other people's children too. and don't even get me started on the amount of love each character contains within themselves in thsi horrible situation, the fact that they find themselves to be selfless. In conclusion this book is amazing.
ps: it really make me think about the people, specifically the women, in Gaza who are fighting every day and being brave in their own way. Free Palestine

TEN OUT OF TEN! It took me 20 years to read because I honestly hate historical fiction but the writing was superb.
This was amazing. I’m glad I took my time reading this over a month and a half. It’s sad to see how sick and cruel this world can be, and watch it happen all over again 80 years later.
