this book is such a delight to read. it's easily one of my favourites so far. it a sharp and acutely accurate portrait of the fundamental misanthropy plaguing everyone that has stepped foot into society.
A book group - very dark comedy, which make you remember that whatever else may happen in life we all must die!

This book was what was picked for my book club.
I enjoyed the flow of the book and its one of the first books in a long time(barring fantasy and sci fi) that i have sped through. Although that being said i thought the ending would be a bit more conclusive than it was going to be.
All in all i would definitely read more Muriel Spark.

An old ladie recieves mysterious telephone calls, telling her to remember that she must die.
At first, nobody believes her, and everyone believes her to be going batty - until she visits a relative without having told anybody about it. The telephone rings. Said relative answers.
"Tell her to remember that she must die."
The writing style reminds me greatly of Agatha Christie, and that the story is set in the british upper-classes only adds to that impression. This novel is all about people as they grow old: Differences and similiarities. How people try to retain independence when body and mind get frailer with each passing day.
So part of this is set in a hospital ward for old people, and quite a few characters die on these pages.
I was intrigued by the strangeness of the blurp, but am not really satisfied with what I read as it doesn't get resolved. But also, I had a bad mental health day, and am not really sure if just everything was meh. I think I should try another one by Muriel Spark and see if I like that more.

My first Muriel Spark book and an absolute delight from start to finish.
I love a lot of Muriel Spark this I found dull and a bit tedious to read. Shame as it started laugh out loud funny.
