I received my first ever ARC and it couldn’t have been a better story. The Sweet Spot is absolutely my new favorite Playing To Win book!
Brynn and Deacon are love and partnership goals. The love Brynlee has for everyone in her orbit and the dedication Deacon shows to supporting those he loves with his entire soul just makes me swoon.
I also can’t help giggling each time we get a new easter egg explained from a previous book. “Did you just Friends us?” about made me pee myself laughing and it was the perfect explanation (and not at all what I was expecting) from The Knockout.
Bella Matthews totally knocked this one out of the park and I’m already salivating for the next book. The Kroydon Hills legacy kids have set up camp in my heart and are not leaving anytime soon.

The Sweet Spot is the 4th and final book in the Playing to Win series. I was excited to see this was Brynlee’s romance since I have loved her character since The Knockout.
Brynlee had a crush on Deacon when they were young teens, but she hasn’t seen him for 10 years. Deacon knew she had a crush as a teen but seemed too young at the time. However, sparks fly when they run into each other at a bar. She definitely has grown into a beautiful woman, and Deacon is finally ready to pursue her. Their connection and chemistry were immediate, and this was a very low angst romance.
Deacon has just been hired as a head coach for the Revolution hockey team, which her mother owns. He is also a single dad of a sweet but anxiety ridden daughter, who is about to live with him full-time when his ex-wife is moving overseas. This leads to a marriage of convenience between Deacon and Brynlee, which had a unique setup. Get ready for some sexy and dominant, “my wife” vibes from Deacon.
I have to say, I really loved how amazing his relationship was with his ex-wife. It was a nice change of pace to read about an ex who is so kind and accepting of the heroine and their relationship. I also loved seeing how his daughter Kennedy opened up to Brynlee.
Bella Mattews has written such a beautiful and emotional series for 2nd generation characters. She has created such a sweet and amazing family that is so huge but loving. The found family, extended family is perfection, and I love how supportive the women are in this family.
I can't wait to read the next book in her new series, which will be about Kenzie.

The Sweet Spot is the fourth book in the Playing to Win series. This is a hockey coach, marriage of convenience, single dad romance.
Brynlee and Deacon have a powerful soul deep connection. This story is for sure an emotional ride. I had TEARS! Their chemistry is fire. I loved how sweet and possessive Deacon is. You get some hot spicy scenes wit hall the feels. It is entertaining and keeps you hooked from the first page. I can't get enough of this family. I cannot wait to see where the new series takes us next. What a great read.

In Bella Matthews' The Sweet Spot, readers dive into a contemporary romance that blends a fake marriage trope with a dash of nostalgia and undeniable chemistry. The story follows Brynn, who agrees to marry Deacon Kane—a now-handsome hockey player and single father—to help him maintain custody of his daughter. What starts as a practical arrangement quickly evolves into something deeper and more passionate, challenging both Brynn and Deacon to confront their true feelings.
The book excels in its fast pace and engaging narrative. Matthews clearly knows how to keep the story moving, ensuring that readers remain invested in Brynn and Deacon’s evolving relationship. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the romance is steamy and well-crafted, delivering satisfying moments of tension and connection.
However, the execution of the fake marriage trope falls short. The motivations behind the arrangement are not fully explored, and Brynn’s reluctance to communicate her concerns can be frustrating. This lack of clear rationale and character development undermines the emotional stakes of the story.
Overall, The Sweet Spot is an enjoyable read with a compelling romance and strong pacing, but it misses the mark in fully delivering on its central trope.

I have enjoyed the other books that i have read from this author before. Her books are perfect for if you want an easy fast book to read & if you wanna shut your mind off for a bit. Sadly tho this one did not hit. It was still very easy to read, i read 97% in one day & then quit and didn’t go back for months even though i was almost done, just because i didn’t find it enjoyable. I didn’t care about the characters & didn’t believe in their relationship. The best part was the family scenes, they were one of the only reasons i kept reading.

I haven't yet read a book in The Kroydon Hills 2nd Generation that I haven't loved and Brynlee's book is a great addition to it.
Brynlee and her childhood crush OMG! Deacon is given the job of hockey coach on her family's team. Making sparks re-ignite between both of them as well as start an unconventional proposition that helps them get closer.
Plenty of laughs especially in the group chats, a few tears and a truck load of steamy scenarios too. A knockout read that I loved reading.

I adore this group of friends (and siblings/relatives in some cases) and this was another sweet romance for one of them.
Brynlee's story moved at a fairly quick pace, her relationship with Deacon moving from a teen crush, to not seeing each other for years, to a fake husband in no time.
To me though, the marriage never really felt like a fake thing. They seemed to hit it off immediately, and the marriage just felt like something they'd surely do at some point anyway.
Loved seeing everyone from the previous books, but also seeing how this one tied in (chronologically) with the other stories.
I am so intrigued by Kenzie, I want to know her story!
