Not a huge fan for historical fiction either, especially not frontier stuff :P (except Little House on the Prairie, love that).
Power of love
A heartbreaking story but also full of happiness from true love. Beautifully written. I'm usually upset at the differences between books and movies but I honestly think that the movie Missie was better. This series is an exception for me as to how different things are. Highly recommend both!

The past few winters, I've noticed that I crave "comfort food" stories. Maybe it's SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) or maybe sometimes you just need to step away from "heavy" books and read something predictable. The ending needs to be happy too. This book absolutely fits that bill. It's corny, hokey,... but you know sometimes you just need that "feel good" book. I didn't like the writing style though. The chapters were easy to speed through but they felt abrupt in some places. The accent she gave the character seemed overdone to me, but I'm not from the prairie.
I hate it when books end just at the happy beginning....

The plot was good, and even though it took me a while to get used to the way of writing, I really like how she wrote it.
I feel like the character development and interpersonal relationships were showcased far better in the movie. There was a lot of showing instead of telling, and unfortunately, it made the reading experience boring. It was a sweet concept, but it wasn't executed well.
