Shattered is definitely an appropriate name for this book. All three Druids find themselves in danger in a war that they don't want and all are forced to fight when they'd rather make peace. It's heartbreaking as we say goodbye to some characters and find out finally who is behind the attacks on Atticus. Because a detail of book 8 was spoiled for me by a Hearne fan during his event at our store, I know that more loss and sadness is to come, but I'm as hooked as ever.
This series continues to be a fun read for urban fantasy fans. In Shattered, Atticus is faced with the continous growing threat of Loki and he also needs to find out who is behind the attempt on his life that occurred in the previous story. In Shattered you get the perspective from not only Atticus but Granuelle and Owen as well. It is really a enjoyable story and it also sets the reader up for the next story. Recommended for all urban fantasy fans.
I really enjoyed the way the book was broken up into different viewpoints. It provided a different perspective on the events that are happening, and have happened.
Shattered is another brilliant installment of The Iron Druid Chronicles. I love that this time we add a new perspective character, so now we have Atticus, Granuaile, and Owen. I didn't expect to like Owen, Atticus's archdruid, so much but his character gets some fantastic moments and quite a few of those deal with his status as a man out of his own time. The author does a great job of further developing everyone and making their voices quite unique. I also really enjoyed that we get to see more of everyone separate on their own journey. Plus, as always there plenty of good action scenes, more expansions on the mythology (and some cool returns to places I thought we'd never get to see again) and hilarious moments.
YOU GUYS!
Chapter 6 may blow your mind.
The reveal of bad guys will make things clear and, oh dear, but there will be a lot of pain to come.
The final big scene will...yeah. Ouch.
When does the next book come out? When? I need it!

The 7th book in the series splits up Atticus from Granuaile for most of the plot. She is in India trying to fight the Rakshasa that has taken over his body. Atticus and his now rescued former teacher are out of contact with her for most of the book but things are coming to a head with the Fae and Atticus. Everyone meets up in the end but there are not happy endings for everyone. This closes one part of the story arc that has started at the beginning of the book but there is still more with Loki and the revised Raragnarok that is still coming.
this was so amazing. cannot wait what the next one will hold. also I'm a little sad that the series will be over soon. still the addition of Owen as a character was nice. He brings a new perspective to everything. I also appreciated that Granuaile was off doing her own thing for most of this.
Shattered is a collection of short stories from The Iron Druid Chronicles, and while I enjoyed them quite a bit - Luke Daniels' narration is always on point - I thought some of the stories were a bit too hurried (as is often the case with me when it comes to short stories...)
Re-read Review:
This is one of my all-time favorite series. I have been slowly (slower than I would like) rereading this series, so that I can finally make it to the final book. Something that I have been putting off. This is only my second time rereading this particular book (the first 6 books have been read 3 times). This reading was a bit different then the first time I read it. Meaning that I didn't enjoy quite as much as the first time that I read it. I am not sure what the difference was, maybe that I read one right after the other and was caught up in the world. Maybe I didn't pick it up the first time around. It's not a bad book. But with space and between this book and the last, I can say that this is a big transition of the timeline. It's told from three different perspective (Owen, Atticus and Granuaile). Owen is a brand new character who adds and brings out a different side of Atticus, while slowly becoming his own in his own right. This book is missing a sense of urgency the other books have had and provides a bit more somberness and self reflection. In essence, this book is just a tad bit slower than the rest. But I still can't wait for the next book, and I'm very glad to have visited this world.
Original Review: Oh my goodness! I literally just finished and I want to start the next one right now, but I also want to take time to absorb everything that's happened because I feel torn in so many ways.....
