Lloyd Dobbler's boombox didn't work the first time, so he tries again fifty years later. This book's like that. Beautiful prose but the middle 75% is unbelievably boring. The best characters are the peripheral ones; the focal couple is alternately petty and wanton, and difficult to sympathize with.
