Holmes/Watson retellings abound and yet Older succeeded in creating one that felt familiar and new at the same time. The plot was entertaining but it was the characters and their interactions that fascinated me. The setting worked extremely well too, with humanity having had to take refuge on floating platforms ‘on' Jupiter after wrecking up Earth and Mars. The result is a mix of futuristic elements but with a very atmospheric, Victorian even, flavour. The addition of an understated romance only made it better. Cannot wait to read the next one, and the author’s previous work.
