I really liked the vibe of this book, the noir kind of feel (can there be a "cozy noir"?). As an academic, I am a sucker for an academic setting, with all the personalities and egos involved, and putting one on another planet is irresistible. Then you add the investigator who feels like she's on the spectrum.
As a murder mystery, it's fine but not better than that. One thing I actively dislike is when bad guys do a lot of laughing, which is an annoying trope that doesn't happen in real life. Gives it too much of a Scooby Doo feel. I kept wondering why there is no security anywhere. More on that with spoiler:
How could someone set up and fire a major rocket without any authority ever noticing? It also seems strange that there is no security of any kind anywhere--were humans really that peaceful?
