For the most part, this read as a very in-depth character study more than a novel. The characters were well developed, but so much attention was paid to their emotional backstory and development that the story lost momentum in several parts. There were a lot of excellent explorations of grief and how it effects everyone, the meaning of family, and more emotional concepts, but overall the story lacked something for me.
