I relate way too much and it is painful to read

3.5. I really enjoyed this sequel; however, some of the conflicts were annoying and seemed to derail the story

Really liked the Rosie Project but this was one was hard to read.

Dnd because the book was getting too ridiculous and relied on the concept of autistic ppl being nonsensical too much. Also Rosie just got really annoying and purposely missing your borht control doesn’t read as girl boss

4 stars

I am more used to the writing in this book than the first so it was a bit easier to read. It was fun to read and I am glad we get to learn more about Don and Rosie's life and their marriage. Although this book does mention sex and alcohol a whole lot. Don should do something about his alcohol problem.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't expecting to like Graeme Simsion's first book, The Rosie Project. It sounded like it would be cutesy and twee. However, I was really pleasantly surprised by the book and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. But my fears rose again for the second book- it came out just a year after the first was a big hit. Could it achieve the same lightness and grace that the first book did?

To me, the answer was no. The Rosie Project was about Don Tillman, a guy somewhere on the autism spectrum, finding a wife in an unexpected way. What happens after marriage? You know, the baby carriage. And so it goes with this book.

My problem with this book was Rosie. While in the first book, she was an interesting, nuanced character, in this book, she's pregnant, and that's about all she is, except stressed, uninterested in communication with Don, and, as it turns out,
Spoiler seeking a way out of her marriage
Spoiler. This turns into the worst kind of sitcom, with the shrewish wife, the clueless husband, and the situation that spirals out of control due to (once again, my pet peeve) lack of one good conversation. Ugh.

There were some funny bits, but not enough to counterbalance the annoyance I felt. If this were the first book I'd read by this author, I wouldn't pick up another one. As it is, I'll be cautious. Comedy- I can't imagine how hard it is to do well in written format.

If you liked the first one, you'll like this one.
