Funny if a little convoluted at times. Very pleased with the happy ending, though I felt Buds arrival (after all the build up) was rushed. Could have used an extra chapter maybe?
Not as good as Rosie Project but still a fun read. A bit less believable than the one before and I was unhappy w the portrayal of the social worker.
I truly loved this book. A literary masterpiece? No. But an enjoyable entertaining fun read, yes. It's been awhile since I've truly laughed out loud reading a book and I laughed more than once. The characters are endearing. The plot simple but effective. I was sad to see it come to an end
Let me start by saying I really loved The Rosie Project. I was expecting more of the same and in some ways I got it. I enjoyed this next phase in Don's life. I loved the way Don got into and out of trouble, and somehow, without intending to be, he is a very good friend and husband. Now, the part I didn't enjoy so much was Rosie. She seemed like a different person in this book and some of it can be blamed on pregnancy, but maybe not all of it. She was mean (ok, maybe not really mean) to Don and seemed to just assume that he wouldn't be a good father. She knew what Don was like before she married him and decided to have a baby with him, so I just didn't understand the change in her behavior. All of that aside, the characters were brilliant and funny. Don has few friends but the ones he has are good friends. There are a lot of humourous moments in this book as well as a few heart wrenching ones. Great book and I would recommend it to others.

It is hard to strike lightening twice and I'm afraid Graeme Simsion has come up against that challenge and failed.
"The Rosie Project" was so delightful because, in part, you were rooting for two sympathetic characters to come together.
In "The Rosie Effect" Simsion has made Rosie quite unsympathetic and while we root for Don to win her back, one starts to feel after a while "Why bother?" She has gotten pregnant without his consent and she has immediately decided that he doesn't have it what it takes to be a good father. Her reasoning seems weak and her willingness to just abandon her marriage without allowing him to try to prove himself as a father in no way endeared her to me.
Her eventual change of heart occurs far too quickly and easily leaving us with a happy but far from satisfying ending.
That said, Don is again a fascinating character and getting to see the world from his point of view is an interesting and often funny experience. Simsion also does a good job of making the previously rather one-dimensional Gene a more full-blooded character in this book.

The second Don Tillman series book was not as magically delightful as the first. The conflict in this installment seemed forced and the characters choices were far fetched. However, Don still delighted me with his point of view and grew as a character.
I loved The Rosie Project and had high hopes for The Rosie Effect. Unfortunately, Effect did not live up to those hopes.
Don Tillman, the main character in both books, is one of my favorite characters. In both books, he is exquisitely drawn. In this book, however, I felt he was the only interesting character. I was bored by the other characters, isn't that awful?
So three stars for Don!

Another hilarious update in the life of Don Tillman and Rosie Jarman. Their completely abnormal normal marriage and a peek into preparing for parenthood. It measures up to exactly what you would dream might happen.
I am sure it won't be the last episode in their seriously funny adventure.
Thanks Graeme Simsion for creating such unique and flawed characters......
