The Rosie Effect

Not as great as the first book but still very entertaining. Despite all of his logical thinking Don still manages to make a jumble of his relationships especially as they become more complicated with a baby on the way.

Summary: The Wife Project is complete, and Don and Rosie are happily married, living in New York. But they're about to face a new challenge because, surprise! Rosie is pregnant. Don sets about learning the protocols of becoming a father, but his unusual research style gets him into trouble with the law. As Don tries to schedule time for pregnancy research, getting friends Gene and Claudia to reconcile, and staying on the right side of the social worker, he might lose Rosie when she needs him the most.

I enjoyed [b:The Rosie Project|16181775|The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1)|Graeme Simsion|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1371651741s/16181775.jpg|22084678]. Don Tillman was an offbeat voice in a sweet story.

This one was a little off. While it was a logical sequel to the first book, it spent too much time in Don's head and not enough time with Rosie.

Why did she decide to get pregnant? Why did she not talk about it? Why are all these characters milling about the story? Why is Don trying to solve Rosie's problems when he could read any of a hundred books and learn that she doesn't want the problem solved, she wants to be listened to?

I get the idea the author wanted to chalk the whole experience up to "mood swings" or something, and it just didn't work well.

It may be that Don Tillman is good for one book, but the gimmick wears off pretty quickly in the second book and it just didn't gel for me. It wasn't horrible, but it lacked the sweetness and originality of the first book.

Very enjoyable. Don & Rosie are now married and in New York. Their relationship undergoes new stresses as Rosie is pregnant, Gene (now separated from Claudia) moves in, and Don tries to prepare for fatherhood. Rosie misunderstands (or doesn't know) about many of Don's efforts, largely because he is trying not to cause her additional stress. Fortunately, Don's friends and true nature come through.

Trivial and obvious as the first, to be precise even more, because if Tillman (at least in the first book) was a novelty though soon became repetitive, in the second book he is definitely so predictable that I even skipped a few pages and the plot was so obvious that, in the meantime, nothing happened.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND PENGUIN BOOKS (UK) FOR THE PREVIEW!

Oh, such fun!

A delightful sequel, you needn't worry about being disappointed with it. It has a lovely ending, the characters are consistent. Don's still trying to solve the puzzle of life, especially when Rosie reveals some life-changing news!

It was as wonderful as ever- Simsion's humour is something else entirely! Don Tillman reads like a real person!

I've heard there will be a film adaptation which I plan to watch immediately upon its release :D

I didn't quite like it as much as The Rosie Project - it wasn't quite as funny - but I still found it hard to put the book down. That's my sign for giving it at least a 4!

At first I thought this was just going to be a continuation of the fun of the original but the relationship/family/parent struggles of all these (really hilarious and endearing) characters, mostly borne by lack of effective communication, really hit home and made me think .... While I was giggling bc Don is the beeeeeest. Highly recommend the audiobook.
