Ihan jees, mutta ei pahemmin säväyttänyt. Muista lukemistani Marchettan kirjoista olen pitänyt enemmän.

Not nearly my favorite book by Melina, but good enough.
If you've ever been exasperated with your grandparents, ever had someone look at you askance because of your race, ever been torn between two different worlds, ever thought you had been shortchanged by adults, ever wished you were loud and obnoxious yet funny and lovable, you'd like this book.
There are some problems with pacing, and I have some problems with the dramatic revelations, which makes this my first non-five-star Marchetta book, but it is still hilarious and warm (like Nonna's homemade spaghetti tomato sauce) at the same time.
Note to self: My favourite character has to be Josephine Alibrandi's recently-returned-to-the-scene biological father, Michael Andretti.

This is an unpopular opinion, but I think this is the best Melina Marchetta novel I've read so far, maybe even better than Jellicoe Road. I'm honestly surprised at myself, being a romantic at heart and the bittersweet sweet way it ended between Josie and Jacob but what can I say? This novel made me feel so much. And sometimes, if it's the right book I think I can accept that the conclusion doesn't hold all the happiness I'd hoped it would.

i loved this book so much!!! i have been putting off reading it since it was the last marchetta book i had left to read. you can tell that it is marchetta's first novel, but it was still great. i loved josie and her relationships with everyone around her, particularly michael.
