No, just no. I had to give up. Darcy would never spend time with Byron willingly. And orgies? Seriously?
slow-paced
The seamier side of Darcy is on full display as per this author’s take on his character. An unlikely friendship with Lord Byron, orgies and frolicking with his maid servants— 🙄— nope not my Mr. Darcy. The man portrayed within these pages does not deserve Elizabeth, ever —the rapscallion!
So much better than the silly "Mr Darcy's Diary," though upon rereading I realize that this book this not particularly romantic. It does set the scene of early 18th century England very well, and introduces the tragic figure of Byron in a wonderful way, but it is not at all about Elizabeth--this book is all Darcy and Bingley's bromance, which is quite adorable. So as long as you aren't expecting much Elizabeth, you'll love this book

Maya Slater's idea of Mr. Darcy is that he's boring and has no morals. I liked it, but definitely didn't love it. I just couldn't get into it since she totally shattered my view of him. Not saying that he got married a virgin...but I doubt that he was sleeping with all of his lady staff and visiting brothels and hanging out with Lord Byron who was having orgies! Yeah, a little too much for me...
And in between his time with Lizzy he's actually pretty boring, he catalogs his library books by hand! I guess if you're a die-hard maybe give it a shot, but otherwise...Pamela Aidan's novels on Darcy's perspective are a lot classier and more entertaining!

LOVED IT! I've always wanted to read Pride and Prejudice from Mr.Darcy's point of view, and this was perfect! Highly recommend to any fan of Pride and Prejudice.
More like 1.5 - Don't ask me why I read this. I picked it up and read it in one day - but if I would recommend you do the same? No, definitely don't bother.
I bumped this up a star for the butler being called Peebles.
