My Antonia is a very sweet story about how meaningful and long-lasting relationships between people can be. It is endearing and very interesting in how relationships may not end up how you want, but loving admiration can still exist.

I read this book for class and I honestly didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. I typically have bad luck with older books and classics so I expected it to be quite boring. However, I actually really liked the characters and the story. I think Jim was a nice narrator and Antonia was a perfect main character. She had a lot of personality and it was easy to see why Jim was drawn to her. Lena and Tiny were also very interesting characters and I was glad that the book followed them into adulthood as well.
I also really liked the overall message of reminiscing on one’s childhood and being able to look back on it with fondness. Overall, this book was such a comforting read and made me feel the same way that I felt when I read Little House on the Prairie as a kid.

“My Ántonia” is a beautiful story about a young Bohemian woman’s life on Nevada plains, as told by Jim, her childhood friend. What made part of the book so compelling to me is Cather’s introduction in the beginning, as she tells a brief backstory of what and who inspired the book. I enjoyed the pacing of the book and it was wonderfully written, but it did fall stale for me at one point. I would probably recommend “O Pioneers!” which is another Cather story told in a similar manner before I recommend “My Ántonia”
