This is the first book in one of my absolute favorite series. An American legend, wrapped in a unique magic system, and a ghost story all in one. Main character Rose Marshall, the Prom Dress Ghost, the Girl in the Green Silk Gown, tells us her story in her own words, scattered through the short tales that make up the chapters in this book. The side characters she is surrounded by are intriguing and tale worthy themselves, from the WW2 era teenager, to the banshee proprietor of her favorite diner. This novel's has a deep love for the American highway, road trips, and the kind of magic you earn only by putting miles behind you. It makes me want to just hop in the car and go until the road runs out.  And it is only the first in the trilogy.

Loved it! Starting from the InCryptid series then reading Aunt Rose's story was really interesting!

If you would have asked me prior to reading this how I felt about a ghost story, I would have responded with a shudder and a pained look. Luckily, I trust Ms. McGuire and read this one anyway.

Who freakin' knew?! As always in her books, she found a unique angle with stellar world building (on top of ours) and a twist that you wouldn't expect. Even the love angle has a twist so twisty that I'm sure there's another word for it.

This book is straight UF, not horror. But whatever the case it is a great story.

If you haven't read anything else by this woman, go buy it all. Worth every penny and then some.

Really well written. Beautiful. But the story felt very.... incomplete.

So good. So ridiculously good. I don't know how Seanan McGuire even exists, a writer that is so perfectly EXACTLY WHAT I LOVE. If you already love Seanan and you haven't read this, you'll love it. If you've never read Seanan but you do fucking love the show Supernatural, you'll love it.

A collection of ghost stories unlike any other I've ever read. Thanks for all the dreams and nightmares, as any good paranormal book should bring.
