Welcome to the world of hitchhiking ghost Rose Marshall—run off the road on prom night 1952 by a man who sold his soul to drive forever young. Originally published in several short stories, Sparrow Hill Road reads as time jumping but still narratively cohesive vignettes following Rose through life, death, and afterlife, learning the rules of the Ghost Roads. THESE VIBES made for such a fun read for my work trip to Winslow, Arizona off Route 66!
Graphic: Car accident and Death
Moderate: Violence, Torture, Sexual content, Injury/Injury detail, Grief, Confinement, Murder, and Blood
Minor: Classism and Bullying

SPARROW HILL ROAD meanders back and forth across the US and through time as Rose guides her fellow departed, and nudges those who have a chance to stay with the living.
This is structured as a collection of short stories following one ghost's journey, woven together until the final tale is the culmination of everything that came before. As every ghost story has echoes and variations, these too have repetition in the framing but distinction in the details, with Rose's voice as a throughline. I like the cadence of the sections individually and the book as a whole.
