This is proof that a series doesn’t need each book to be 500+ pages in order to create a beautiful story! Even though the author’s “world building” isn’t that innovative (the fictional world and its politics are pretty much the same as ours), she is sooo good at creating an environment. Each book has felt like a completely new adventure in a fresh setting. I will say that this final installment of the series went in a direction that I wasn’t expecting AT ALL but it tied the whole series together so beautifully. It’s just such a feel good story and I can’t wait to read it again in a few years!!!

Final novel in the Memoirs of Lady Trent, and it started as it began, which is beautifully.

Lady Trent gets lost, discovers something amazing. Like the other novels, there is not just the alternate history and discovery, but political intrigue and maneuvering, but the story telling, and narration by Kate Reading, is still spot on for the series.

I very much enjoyed the entire series, and I really appreciated the way it ended.

Once again, another book in the series that really hits it home with the glory and hardship of scientific endeavor, the burgeoning of women in fields they have to fight valiantly for, the dream of a strange realism where dragons could be studied archaeologically and biologically, and hope for a better world, where knowledge is there for the taking and learning for any who wish for it. My life is a little better having read this series

A good conclusion to a great series. While I think the previous book, In the Labyrinth of Drakes, had better pacing and emotional payoff, this was well written, entertaining and satisfying. Though a bit jarring as it transitions from the more prosaic discoveries of previous books into something rather more fantastic, the execution is on the whole well done, and after a brief jolt, feels authentic and natural to the world of the story. Where I think the book falters perhaps a bit is in the fact that the second half of the book, unlike the first, doesn't really expand on Isabella's relationships with her friends from throughout the series. The second half of this book is the longest time she's ever been separated from her erstwhile companions, and that lack is felt even though the premise of the separation is logical. On the whole, though I think the penultimate installment in the series is by far the best, Within the Sanctuary of Wings is an engaging and satisfying conclusion to the Memoirs of Lady Trent and shouldn't be missed by fans of the series.
