If not for Veronica's character bugging the complete shit out of me, i would have given this book a 5 out of 5. I normally don't cry at books (especially when my suspicions were confirmed) so this one really surprised me. I already got the second book, beside me so i'm excited to read more!

It was fine. I thought it was an easy but fun read. Just a tad predictable for my taste. It is YA and I am no longer that so it could be why.

I probably won’t continue the series but it was a nice read. I would recommend it to the youths though

Oh my goodness, I loved this!! This book held me in suspense for almost the entire story. I had so many theories and nearly none came true which is amazing to me.
Going to buy the sequel right now!

The Details:
Narrated by Kristen DiMercurio
Unabridged

This was a great read, and yes I preferred The Coldest Touch, but considering this was Isabel's debut, it has the solid foundations of all the themes the author will continue to explore as her career progresses.

I loved learning about the 3 factions of witchcraft there was to follow and how both Elementals and Casters felt towards Blood Witches. It explored ideas of segregation of a group, but in a magical sense.

The queer rep was beautiful to read and it just slotted in naturally, as it should be. As a queer woman married to her wife, the author writes female love beautifully and honestly. From the perspective of teen minds, she delivers women-women romance as tender, fraught with lust, uncertainty and fear and it was beautiful it be able to be in the head of multiple characters exploring these emotions.

The pacing was fast for the most part, I would say. There were times, whilst listening to the audiobook, that I'd have to go back again to ground myself in all that had transpired, but generally speaking, the fast paced writing worked for this type of plot.

The plot had lots of bends and twists that aided in developing the story without being overkill. There were almost equal parts action, wind down moments, tension and wholesome scenes.

I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

It's a 3.75 - 4.0 range. More entertaining that I initially thought and will gladly read the sequel. Fantastic job from the narrator (Kristen DiMercurio). The world building/rules of the witches is simple but interesting, but I hated
the use of "reg" to speak of magicless humans 😅
