A cute coming of age graphic novel about navigating the waters of middle school, having to adjust to changes and bullies and needing to wear glasses!! Finding your true friends and leaning to say goodbye to old ones. This was definitely a nice change of pace from his other, say, deeper novels. This was a lighthearted look of the trials of having to wear glasses for the first time and learning that it’s ok to look different, that’s what makes you who you are.

Ogle's graphic novel instantly transported me back to the struggles in middle school, wishing I fit in with my peers. Give this to students who struggle with finding their place.

I really enjoyed reading this with my son. It sparked really good conversations about tough feelings, imperfect characters, growing pains, and recognizing what’s really important to you.

Oh, I could relate to Rex so much in this GN! I actually got glasses in elementary school, plus dealt with unflattering frames (at least when I originally got mine, they weren’t the greatest), and got my glasses broken in middle school during a dodgeball game (really felt the pain during this scene 😩). Rex had to overcome a lot during this story, but he learned so much about the importance of how his glasses could help him out not only in school, but to boost the confidence within himself that was always there 👓💜

Enjoyable. I think the only thing that got on my nerves was the mother, I understand some people are prideful and don’t want help but if you have kids and struggling then you need to get over that.

A MG graphic novel about bullying, confidence and seeing the world clearly.

As someone whose catalyst for getting glasses was not being able to read the board and my entire 4th grade class thinking I was faking knowing how to read, coming back to school the next day and getting ridiculed so mercilessly that I took my glasses off for school and then put them back on walking down my driveway so my parents wouldn’t know for 3 years, this book spoke to me. Yes, I will be recommending this until I’m blue in the face.
