I like to dabble in Greek mythology books to take a break from Fantasy and Sci-Fi and found that Psyche and Eros was refreshing. Luna McNamara nailed the dichotomy of the dual narrative, one side starting as a matter-of-fact god, the other an ambitious and headstrong princess. I enjoyed how easy it was to read, but being crammed into a fairly short book meant some interesting parts of the story were rushed. But I love how it introduces so many of the other characters from popular Greek mythology books (if you're a fan of The Song of Achilles like me, you'll be excited to see Achilles and Patroclus!). This book gave me great ideas for what I want to read next in the genre.

This was one of the best books I’ve read in months. So beautifully written with a beautiful love story on top of that oh my I cried a few times too. Paxton if you’re reading this pick this up at your local library IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

An entertaining read especially if you don't know the story of Eros and Psyche, but the author name drops nearly every famous mythological hero/warrior in Greek mythology in the same story which makes it a mess of characters and a weird timeline. If you don't care about the accuracy of who knew who in Greek mythology, it's fine.

This was unbelievably good! I devoured it in a few hours, oh my word. I absolutely love a good Greek Mythology story especially if they're romance. I don't know the original myth but I think the author did the story really well. I absolutely loved both Eros and Psyche, what amazing characters and their story was gorgeous. Ugh, absolutely LOVED it ❤️❤️

I’ve been enjoying reading a lot of Greek mythology recently but this felt more like a reimagining as opposed to a retelling but I guess Greek myths aren’t set in stone.
Psyche is the Princess of Mycenae but a prophecy claims that she’ll defeat a monster even the Gods fear. Thus, she spends her youth learning how to fight. In Olympus, Aphrodite sends the God of Desire, Eros with a love-curse. Eros gets caught up and ends up pricking himself with the arrow meant for Psyche. The curse means both Psyche and Eros will be separated the minute they lay eyes on each other. Fate has brought them together but curiosity might just throw them apart - can they find their way back to each other?
I wasn’t familiar with the story of Psyche and Eros but this was enjoyable. I loved the dual perspectives but I also appreciated that they weren’t evenly split. It was great to see Psyche taking up the majority of the book. Eros changes very little from one century to the next so it felt very reflective of this fact.
I’m not sure how to feel about the romance. Whilst I understood the premise that Psyche couldn’t look upon Eros for the fear of the love curse, the pacing felt off. At first it felt rushed but then it dragged when they were apart and it felt like the pacing never really recovered.
I felt that choosing for some events in this book to take place around the time of the Trojan War made it easy for the author to throw in characters who weren’t central to this story like Agamemnon and Achilles. Similarly, there were changes to existing family trees that I didn’t understand. For instance, Helen is now Penelope’s sister and Clytemnestra is the sister-in-law.
Overall, this was a fairly enjoyable read and the romance was fun. I enjoyed learning more about Psyche. I didn’t realise her story was intertwined with that of Atalanta so I reckon that might be my next Greek mythology read.
