This was a fun one.

Regin the Radiant is doomed to relieve her tragic love affair with the berserker Aidan the Fierce. They will meet, fall in love, she will kiss him, and he will die within 24 hours. So far, they have relived this tragic fate 4 times, and this time Regin is determined to NOT let that happen. The problem? Nix gets involved and Regin is captured by The Order - a group of humans bent on killing all Lore creatures. And one of their leaders just so happens to be Declan Chase aka Aidan.

I loved a lot about this book, such as the way all the stories are really starting to come together and blend into one another. I also loved Regin here - she doesn't break or bend and she understands that Declan isn't a woobie in need of saving (like so many of the other women in this series) - she knows that he has been through something terrible, but she doesn't excuse his actions. It isn't until Declan shows he's trying to change that Regin accepts him.

A really fun read and maybe my second or third favorite in the series.

The storyline was pretty awesome and there was a lot of action, but the relationship between Regin and Chase was cringe-worthy to me. She deserves sooooo much better!

Dreams of a Dark Warrior is Reginleit story. The first time Reginleit, the Radiant One met Aiden, the Fierce; she was just twelve years old. Regin may have been just a small thing but don’t under estimate her as Aiden almost made the mistake of. Regin comes to Aiden to ask for his assistance. She left her home in the skies to find her sister, Lucia. Aiden promises Regin that he will help her find her sister, only because they are meant to be together. One day she will become his wife.

Years later, now that Lucia is safe and Regin is grown, she returns to her fierce warrior, Aiden. After making love, Aiden dies and returns reincarnated. This happens numerous times with Aiden returning as someone else. Regin must fin a way to get Aiden to remember his past; so that they both can have the happy ending they always wanted.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior is book nine in the Immortals After Dark series. I have read maybe only one other book in this series. Though from what I understand from reading some of the other readers’ reviews Regin and Aiden have made appearances in prior novel(s). I did not feel that I missed anything but not having read the prior books. This book read as a stand alone novel. From the very beginning, I could tell that Aiden and Regin were meant for each other. They balanced one another out very nicely. Regin is a spit fire and Aiden is hot tempered as well. Though, when it comes to Regin, Aiden would do anything for her, even die for her. I plan to check out all the prior books that I missed. Dreams of a Dark Warrior has me dreaming of more.

DOADW is the first IAD novel to feature a genuine anti-hero; so almost based on that alone I give it 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5. Declan Chase is a tortured, cold blooded, hot mess. Just the sort of hero I love in fiction (and just the sort of guy any sane woman would run as fast as possible away from in real life).

Declan is the 4th (or 5th I forget) reincarnation of Regin the Radiant's doomed Beserker mate Aiden the Fierce - Aiden "the bold, blond Viking, who was like a god among men. Women wanted him and men wanted to be him". And then there is our Dekko...and man, he just came back "wrong". Or as Lothaire describes him, "a coal-haired, scarred, underhanded (drug addicted) emotionally deficient Irishman, who is loathed universally by immortals and mortals alike".

Hard to believe that this is the time that's going to be a charm. Especially after they got off on the wrong foot; what with the immortal-hating Dekko capturing and torturing Regin - hardly the stuff dreams are made of. But then he himself was hideously tortured by those bad immortal neoptera-thingies after they gruesomely killed his parents. Then he was taken under the wing of Commander Webb, leader of The Order (a top secret organization with the job of "protecting people" from the evil immortal miscreations) and further programmed and brainwashed into being a hating, torturing, killing machine. As if all this wasn't bad enough; poor Dekko felt "the strain" since childhood - a harrowing sense of loss, a constant pain in his chest coupled with a punishing anxiety, and the nightmares, and then as an adolescent an inability to have sexual relations because it just felt so...wrong. No wonder the poor thing started shooting up. Just one big hot mess from the word go.

And then there was Regin - I liked her despite finding the whole glowing skin thing rather weird. She was a tough cookie and I don't think she made it all THAT easy for Dekko to get back into her good graces.

There was action and adventure, and we got to get better acquainted with Lothaire (which was good because up until this point I thought he seemed kind of "cardboardy" and I didn't really get what the big deal was). His interactions with the other characters were quite amusing. For example, his quip to Dekko while collecting on some of the blood they bargained over - "And speaking of females, if I call you by one's name while my fangs are plunged deep in your neck, just run with it".

Of course there's a HEA and Nix explains that Declan the Fierce is the right incarnation for Regin to love, because "Declan Chase suits my sister better. Regin doesn't do perfect".

CW: violence, torture, death

This was a good read. I was more invested in the over-arching plot than Regin and Declan's story. Nix, as always, was enjoyable. I was really surprised by how little grovel there was, but the loophole at the end was interesting.

This is a comprehensive review of the series as a whole.

Vampires, demons, witches, wraith, and werewolves oh my! Cole excels at bringing pop culture to rowdy up a house full of hip, battle loving, xbox playing, bat-shit crazy Valkyries. This series is fun, adventurous, and a balm for the sex-starved. While I've enjoyed all the books, Dreams of a Dark Warrior was my favorite.

This was a great book. It was a tough read, lots of emotion but it was worth the time to read. Regin was feisty and full of life. Aidan was a hard character to like but once his l ayers were exposed and the reader saw his motivations, it was easier to relate. In the end this was a great couple and I enjoyed the book.
