The first novel I read after a long time, I became really intrigued at the middle of the book. The beginning was rather slow but when the plot starts to roll it was hard to put the book down. I already predicted some of the twists but still sat there in awe at how beautifully every question got answered in the end.

The author is wordy, but in a VERY good way. So many moments where I felt justified over the connections I saw amongst the little mundane details. Definitely a book crafted with care!

I loved that it reminded me of my fantasy book phase which i had as a child. Reading this felt like a cozy hug while simultaneously not being childish or not exciting enough.

A fun read. Very easy to listen to. It over-explains itself quite a bit which affected the mystery/suspense aspect. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.

I loved this book. If blood makes you queasy then this one might be hard (it was sort of hard for me to get through those parts). But the bloody parts are more clinical than violent, so context helps.

Beyond that content warning, I looooved this book. I immediately googled “does this book have a sequel?” because I just loved the characters so much and I want to continue to follow them. So far it is a standalone book (which is fine, there is no cliff hanger), but I hope the author writes more in this world. The magic system is very cool.

Fun and unique cast of characters with easy to understand magic. It wrapped up a bit quick, in my opinion, but was still satisfying. I really enjoyed this and would read more if the author writes them!

I wouldn’t have picked up this book based on its title alone. The puerile simplicity of Ink Blood Sister Scribe belies the complex interplay of dynamic character perspectives at the heart of this novel. Though quickly ensnared by the storytelling – and a darkly magical world reminiscent of Inkheart and Practical Magic – I found that the prose vacillated from elegant and effective to synesthetic, bordering on purple. Still, the satisfaction gleaned from the story’s tendrils weaving together was well worth the obsessive three-week march. Grossly intoxicating, darkly enchanting, and beautifully complex, Ink Blood Sister Scribe is proof that you should listen to librarians’ recommendations. Always.

When I first started this book, I was put off by the writing style, but I’m glad I stuck with it. The writing style continued to be overwrought, but I got used it and was able to focus on the story.

This is a story with a lot of twists and turns, which did keep me turning pages, even if none of the twists were particularly surprising. This book felt a bit like a roller coaster in the sense that even if you know where it’s going, you’re still enjoying the ride.

I’d most recommend this to people who like the idea of book magic, and want something that leans towards dark academia, but is still a popcorn read.
