I feel like I've just walked through a weird little time capsule. I don't know what just happened, but I loved it.

The pared-back prose is gorgeous. I enjoyed Vitoria's romanticisation of art, writing, friendship - and how completely unbothered she is about patriarchal expectations.

The writing appears emotionless, but there's a silvery humour running through it. I'm still laughing at one of Vitória's exchanges with the maid, Solange.

It's kind of about the relationships between art, writing and life - a sort of parody - but also like stepping into a film halfway through, where you have a vague sense of the plot and a definite sense of something missing.

I will be reading this one again.
