This legendary edition combines two of the Legend of Zelda mangas into one book. Both stories follow the story of the Ocarina of Time video game. For the most part both books followed the video game really well (really up until the water temple). The pacing was fast. In instances where the dungeon/temples scenes went by really fast is understandable, but I did feel the pacing did at times take away from the story and made it worse.

The first book, which focuses on the story of child Link, was actually really good. This followed the video game story of child Link very closely. There were only some differences from the video game, but in this book I could easily see how those differences were necessary to be able to complete a more comprehensive story. I really liked how this book gave more personality to characters, especially those of the Kokori. I also liked the interpretation of the possible struggles Link would have gone through as the only kid in the Kokori without a fairy.

The second book, which focuses on the story of adult Link, was where I struggled with this manga. The story takes a complete turn just after the fire temple. This is where it really starts to stray from the video games. I tried to not let it bother me and tried to give it a chance, which wasn’t easy. But I didn’t love what Himekawa did with the story. I felt that they tried to add more of their own story, but in doing so, they had to rush other elements of the story. This is my biggest criticism. I felt like finding and awakening of the last 3 sages (water, spirit, shadow) had to be rushed because of other story elements given. So this book mostly just felt rushed to me. Lastly, I find issues with the things they did with Sheik.

Amazing

I LOVE Ocarina of Time! The story, the conflicts, the humor, just everything is *chef's kiss*. Although, I am saddened to see that after both Zelda and Link became adults and went though so much together, Zelda had to play the song of time to put everything(including the timeline) back in place. But hey, at least Link was able to see Zelda again! Even though they aged 7 years, and then aged down 7 years to where they were before. Still a good story nonetheless!

I still get baffled by some of the pacing decisions. There’s an entire chapter dedicated to a side quest at the Lon Lon Ranch that completely isn’t in the game, then immediately after the entirety of the water temple is randomly summarized in 4 pages with no context. I would have had some notes for the authors, but aside from those things, I really liked this manga. Like the other Zelda manga, it’s really fun to see the characters come to life in new ways and to experience the backstories and side stories invented for the manga.
