I love Solnit and this is a great collection of essays, as usual.

The best essays were definitely the first three ones, but an interesting collection throughout!

"It is the truest, highest purpose of language to make things clear and help us see; when words are used to do the opposite you know you're in trouble and maybe there's a cover-up." (p. 158)

Brilliant.

We read this book for book club and it brought up interesting conversations. We were all in agreement that we liked the first essay on silence the best. I personally thought it brought up points that I hadn't thought of before and also it referenced other voices that would be helpful for me to read. As someone that has been reading a lot of essays lately, it just didn't hit it out of the park for me. But, it did have some amazing nuggets of quotes and information that resonated with me. I encourage anyone who hasn't been reading about these topics to pick up this book. It is easily digestible and contains important information that you should know.

A collection of essays arguing for feminism in the modern age. The Mother of All Questions was much more inclusive than Men Explain Things To Me and thought that the set of essays republished was cohesive. The essays on women's silence and on violence are definitely worth reading.

At this moment in my life I found this book extremely powerful. It expressed everything I want to express when confronted with misogyny or sexism or simple counter arguments about why women have a right to be. I really enjoyed the diversity of subjects in the essays. I found the essay on giantess very provocative and different. Having seen the movie giant and enjoyed it I’m excited to watch again in this new light.

Throughout reading this book I constantly posting it on social media platforms. This is good book for anyone who is interested in feminism or an inoculation against misogyny.
challenging inspiring reflective fast-paced

I wish it was longer. I particularly liked the section (essay?) on silence and the different ways it is forced on women.
informative medium-paced

I could not put this book down. The essays are clear and get right to the point. No beating around the bush here.
