Another great collection of essays by Rebecca Solnit. I’m only giving this 3 stars because I didn’t feel like I learned anything particularly *new* and I wanted the title essay to be the bulk of the book/theme. It was a very short essay at the beginning, which I found disappointing. Still, some good insight into relevant (feminist) issues with humor intertwined.

it is extremely refreshing to see a condemnation of mainstream porn in a well-received, recent feminist publication by a popular author. the collection as a whole is pretty repetitive since each essay draws on a lot of the same examples to illustrate its points.
Posing some interesting questions, this collection of essays has become a little outdated (Louis C K as a feminist ally? Really?)
Wowee. This book shook me up with rage and momentum. Solnit writes with such sharpness about the state of feminism and women's lives within patriarchal rape culture yet her prose reads with such ease ad beauty. Striking, a call to arms.
El ensayo sobre romper el silencio es de los mejores que he leído y es lo que hace destacar a este libro.
El resto de los ensayos son entretenidos y dicen cosas interesantes, pero ya en los últimos todo se siente repetitivo y parece que ya no hay nada nuevo qué conta y sólo están para llenar espacio. En particular el último, Giant, en donde me cuenta toda una película del mismo nombre (que nunca he visto y que me ha spoileado) se siente sobrante. Entiendo que quiera hacer el análisis y que quiera incluir un ejemplo de cómo una película puede cambiar la narrativa de siempre, pero realmente no creo que haya sido un gran acierto incluir este ensayo.
Un título más adecuado para el libro sería Breaking the Silence, porque realmente trata sobre la narrativa que nos rodea, cóm contamos nuestras propias historias y cómo nos las han contado a nosotras.

I think I waited too long to read this and if I was looking at it in a bookshop today I wouldn't buy it. Not that it's bad, just not what I'm looking for any more.
