Idk; it started out SO strong - sexy single dad firefighter? Yes please. But I just stopped caring about everything eventually. The characters are fine. The story is fine. I don't like how he talks about his ex. I don't like how childish they make the FMC out to be. Idk. I didn't find it believable. Ultimately I ended up reading another book which turned into 30 more books before trying to come back to this one & I just can't. I'm going to stop pretending like I'm going to try to finish it later & just DNF it already.

Meh. I started reading Indigo Ridge while finishing this and wow when comparing the two it’s clear how much substance is missing from this book. I need more than he’s emotionally closed off/ grumpy and the main character is young and cute.
I only started this cuz I thought it was a firefighter romance but there is 0.5% actual firefighting content and that is when he says yeah I’m a firefighter

I picked up this book because I heard it was “spicy.” I expected it to be mostly smut with little plot (which I was fine with because I waited until I was in the mood for that), but that was not the case. I wouldn’t consider this a spicy book, although there are a few moments, but I was hooked by the story!
Dex was a jerk at times, and probably should’ve gone to therapy for at least a couple of sessions, but he was HOT. I’ll be real: I recently had an age-gap crush, so that definitely has something to do with my interest and appreciation.
I loved Dex’s daughters! They were funny and sweet.

I didn't realzie this was a NEXT GEN series so I really felt nothing with the cameos hence i should read the other book... i think i would've loved it more had I read it in order (whose to say)

This was a very cute, but predictable read. Dex, 34, is a divorced firefighter who has shared custody of his 2 daughters. He is grumpy and closed off. He moves nextdoor to Winnie, a 22 year old ray of sunshine. Dex's girls are immediately taken with Winnie. Dex cannot deny his attraction to Winnie but is convinced that she is too young for him and has no interest in a relationship or love.
Dex and Winnie are completely opposites. Winnie is a love addict and Dex doesn't believe in true love. He is a grumpy pessimist and she is a bubbly optimist. They have an instant physical connection and decide to have a FWB relationship, obviously that goes completely sideways as they both fall for one another. Dex is closed off and does not allow himself to acknowledge his feelings until it is too late.
They were cute together and his grand gesture was adorable. I didn't really get the whole solemates vibe from them, but they definitely had a connection. She woke him up to the possibly of having a happy future.
I liked that we got so see so much interaction between Winnie and the girls. They adored each other. Also the side characters were entertaining.
