I have to say going into this extremely long audiobook. I was a little nervous, just because I read A Little Life in March and that was a 33 hour long book and I don’t think I’m over that book yet… so going into this 32 hour long book I was a little nervous, but holy hell I am so glad I stuck with it.
I absolutely loved the story. I honestly should’ve been taking more notes on my thoughts to have a better review, but I just blew through this book because the story was so addictive and I just wanted more of it. I absolutely loved Boris‘s character. I think Theo needed him in order to survive honestly and even Andy I think without those two friendships Theo probably would’ve been dead.
I don’t think it needed to have been as long as it was. I feel like they were moments where Theo was just kind of talking nonsense and in my head I was like we don’t really need this information, it’s fine to have but without it, it would be the same story. I kind of felt myself lose interest at the end when Boris and Theo were in Amsterdam, which is funny because that was probably the most action packed scene in the entire book.
Also, did Hobie give anybody Giles vibes from Buffy? I absolutely loved him and wanted more of him every chapter. I request a second book just about Hobie please and thank you.
I am very curious to watch the movie, I don’t think I would’ve chosen Ansel Elgort to play Theo, but maybe it works…

Have a soft spot for this book bc it’s largely based in New York, but would recommend to everyone. So well written and navigates beautifully complex relationships in a classic Bildungsroman style

I would read anything Donna Tartt writes; there is an absolute certain magic in how she writes. Absolutely masterful.
BUT even after 700 pages I kept expecting something more, plot wise. So much time spent with Theo only to finish feeling like unsatisfied like a phone call hung up mid sentence?
Potentially need to revisit and reread.
