Super fun read. With a Jack Reacher novel you know he’s a badass that will win (duh there’s a million books in the series), but it’s about the journey and how he gets to the end. Making these situations happen to him is a fun premise since he just wants to be left alone. I was hooked on this one and it adds to the excitement of the Amazon show for me.

Hard to judge this one fairly, it veered a little farther away from what I liked about the first book. Reacher's still using his head, but he's also having to use guns a lot more. I didn't really want to spend that much time in the company of deluded militia and hyper violent egomaniacs. The tidbits of the FBI investigating were engaging, but, faded out, as did Reacher being a protagonist thinking things through and investigating and having moments of personal reflection/vulnerability rather than just physical or marksman-based  skills reacting to the next obstacle. The tradition of a fierce love interest who is conveniently side-lined from participating in much of the action continues. In the hopes that the first book is a better indicator of the series than the second, I'll try the third, but as of now, I don't have enough invested to mind not continuing if the series leans heavier on the action than cerebral mystery/crime solving.
⚠️Assault, attempted SA, mention of SA

*Die Trying* takes everything great about *Killing Floor* and ramps it up to a whole new level. This time, Jack Reacher is thrown into a high-stakes kidnapping plot, and the tension never lets up. The story is relentless, packed with action, clever problem-solving, and Reacher’s signature mix of brute force and tactical genius.

What makes this book stand out is how it balances nonstop action with a strong, resourceful female lead in FBI agent Holly Johnson. The dynamic between her and Reacher adds depth to the story, making it more than just a typical thriller. The villains are truly menacing, the stakes feel incredibly high, and the twists keep coming.

If you enjoyed *Killing Floor*, *Die Trying* proves that Lee Child knows exactly how to keep readers hooked. It’s another fast-paced, explosive ride that cements Reacher as one of the best action heroes in modern fiction.

On to the next one!

A slower pace than I'm used to with Reacher novels, perhaps a side-effect of trying to connect so many different agencies and characters, the final third still packs the punches and keeps you guessing.

The fact that I enjoyed the parts of the book that Reacher WASN’T in says a lot. Decent mystery, but so much of it was Reacher simply grunting or shrugging and it only got going right towards the end.
