I don't know why this book and Nemesis are in the same series. Genesis has an entirely different premise which I might've been interested in otherwise, but the plot shift was too jarring.
Speaking of jarring, one character's transformation between the last book and the start of this one felt completely out of the blue, and not for the better.
But on its own, the plot is incredibly interesting and the moral dilemmas in this book are gut-wrenching and heavy.

the characters inhabit a world where they "regenerate" after dying (until they later find out they can regenerate only a certain amount of times), so they mostly kill not intending to end life
