Another great read from Jenn Bennett. Loved the characters and the story.
maybe more of a 3.5? this was really cute and i enjoyed it a lot. it took awhile to get into, but once i was oriented in the story, it went by fairly quickly. honestly this reminded me a lot of gilmore girls!! like, gilmore girls but make rory and jess childhood friends... and make jess not emotionally manipulative!! i DO love the "local bad boy" trope being turned on its head to reveal that the bad boy is just like... some dude... who likes metallurgy. honestly same! this book reminded me that most men are bad except for BTS... i am once again bringing up bts in a goodreads review!! they weren't even mentioned here!! bong joon ho was though so bong joon ho rights! fundamentally, i am not okay, and this was a great ya read!! definitely jenn bennett deserves a place in the upper echelon of ya writers i wish i had read when i was a dreamy 17 year old

Love the best-friends-to-lovers trope in Chasing Lucky because everyone deserves a Lucky Karras in their lives. I enjoyed the summery feels and slow-burn romance between Josie and Lucky. The book also features the protagonist's dysfunctional relationship with her mother and her mother's with her grandmother, and it was something very refreshing to read about.

Chasing Lucky was a cute YA romance filled with complicated family dynamics and a second-chance romance. I have a pretty good track record of enjoying Jenn Bennett’s books and this was no different. It was an easy breezy read and I flew through it.
Chasing Lucky felt like it was geared toward the younger side of the young adult genre. This is probably why I felt this was kind of just an average read for me. The depth of the family drama was the more enjoyable and dynamic element but most of the other things felt lackluster.
The romance between Lucky and Josie was honestly very sweet and I loved watching them reconnect and work through their past issues. I didn’t really enjoy their relationship as much as I hoped to but I think that’s mainly because of my personal preference. I’ve been reading a lot more adult romances so I felt like there was a lot missing but it’s honestly just because of the genre difference.
If you’re looking for a cute second chance romance with a theme of complicated family dynamics this book is for you.
