The story has good potential, but the writing is unfortunate. Light fantasy written like a modern world teenage romance book, with lots of jarring, cringy thought and speech patterns to wrench you out of your imagination of what could easily be a very interesting world. Immersion is only faintly better than the world developed by the TERF-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. This sort of fantasy might appeal to readers who only like the genre enough to dip their toes into it, but it leaves the rest of us cringing and wishing a little more thought (and editing) had gone into it.
