This was…really good. Slow paced but really solid writing. Of course he’s a great writer too! 🤣
Oh, Tom. I still love you, though. Hearing you narrate the book was worth an extra star for me.
On the surface this collection of stories are all tied together by the appearances typewriters, which is enjoyable enough, especially when narrated by Tom Hanks. But what I real enjoyed was the less blatant theme of the deeper and often hidden stories that make up individual lives. It’s a theme I always appreciate, but which is all the more interesting when it comes from a celebrity author.
I liked probably 75% of the stories, there is a wide variety of topics and some that relate back to eachother which was interesting . Listening to Tom Hanks read it made it so much more enjoyable.

I don't think I can do short stories.
I need character development, and ups and downs and mysteries.
So I am probably not the best person to review a book of short stories.
These might be good, I don't know.

This collection of short stories by Tom Hanks (Yes, that Tom Hanks!) is a refreshing and candid view into the psyche of all types of ordinary, everyday people, and even a few made-up celebrities. What is compelling about each one is the perspective given to each character and the casual way in which each story is told. While I didn't enjoy every story, there were quite a few that had me laughing or wowing about after a particularly poignant scene.
