“it was because i thought too much, lived too much in the mind. it was hard to make decisions. i felt immobilized.”donna tartt is a literary genius and the secret history will become an essential to classic literature if it isn’t already.

after henry did what he did in the hotel any explanation to his action came after i hated and refused to take into consideration, what do i say i was too stricken by what he did and unhappy with it. i suppose i’m being like him now since his action was merely a reaction to julian’s.
i can’t deny it but i did feel bad for bunny not at first but as getting to know the others (and before his last line in his letter to julian though that line broke me. he was fond of life more than any of them was or ever will be for that matter) and knowing that he really wasn’t the worst of them but just as bad but for some reason they felt superior to him.
the ending i didn’t expect not even for a moment reading this book supposedly because i didn’t think of it or to be more accurate forced myself to not think of it i wanted to be shocked flabbergasted stunned. and i was.
richard romanticism to everything felt too close to home i connected to him in too many aspects i thought I whom was narrating this story, especially when he sat opposite to henry in the library after julian left trying to console him “i wanted to say something profound, that julian was only human, that he was old, that flesh and blood are frail and weak” his attempt to pursue julian as a good memory as someone he loved and who love him back as the father he wished he had and not the person who abandoned him when things got rough.

i also found myself relating to julian? in much ways i didn’t think i would but the last passages richard talked about him calling him selfish and his kindness as only a surface and not at all from the heart, the way he didn’t see everything as they truly were or to be exact Choose not to. i know he said it in a scathingly taunting way but i sort of get julian

i adored henry every remark came from any character in the book about him i found so enchanting he was perfect, truly in the way he wanted julian to be i was fond of him very much i started reading plato and ancient greek philosophy for his sake, i think his kind of character is the one that sticks with you for longer than you’d expect

i liked camilla, francis too (very very much i think he was the most honest amongst them all and he loved them all the most) i felt sorry for charles. i didn’t expect this downfall of his character but during the things that were happening to him i think i should’ve saw it coming

i enjoyed every last bit of this captivating book i don’t think another one will ever compare to how i felt while reading it. an absolute masterpiece

primum est amare
secundo legere erat cor frangere
