It didn’t connect for me. Something felt like it was missing. The mc was very naive to the world which created a difficult time as the reader because the story is from her perspective. Interesting world build though, it has a lot of potential for the rest of the series.

** spoiler alert ** Listened to this on audio for my online book club I'm a part of. I'm glad I listened to it on audio because I don't know if I would've gotten through it without the audio.
Overall, I thought the premise was super cool, the narrator was good, and the ideas of the seven deadly sins was SO FUN! I'm glad to know that there is the spin-off series following the princes of hell that is an adult series.... truly looking forward to that. It's also the main reason I'm going to continue this trilogy on audio.
The FMC was annoying and given everything (in my opinion) in order to solve the mystery, she was involved in..... whether it was from the princes of hell Wrath & Envy, her grandmother, her friends, her cousin, or even people in the town. I felt like Emilia was used as a plot device to further the plot itself.... if that makes sense.
I liked that Emilia and Vittoria (sisters) were Strega, which is basically a witch who lives in the human world. With Emilia being a witch, she obviously has some powers and knowledge of the underworld and how to manage herself within it.... but it was never explained how she knew how to do these things. She just could. I didn't feel like her character developed or grew in any way either.
When Vittoria gets murdered, Emilia is rightfully distraught and angry as her twin sisters murder, but we as the reader didn't get to know Vittoria, so that connection was completely lost on me. The same thing occurs later in the book with a cousin of Emilia's. We never knew these characters so I couldn't feel Emilia's anger and revenge plot line.
I will continue in the trilogy in order to get to the spin-off series because the princes of Hell were the most intriguing part of the story.

I didn't think someone could pull off a "who-dun-it" and fantasy, but thankfully I was proven wrong. This story is a perfect mix of the supernatural and a good mystery story. This story follows Emilia, a witch, as she hunts down her twin sister's killer. Little does she know; her investigation leads her to the Kingdom of the Wicked. There she meets Wrath, one of the seven princes of hell, and the story goes from there.
I was already partial to this story from the beginning because it takes place in Italy. Yes, please! Second, this story is fast paced and still has me guessing as to what the final outcome will be. There's twists and turns all through which kept me locked in throughout.
I gave this book 4 stars because I could have used a little more romantic interaction between the main characters. (This is just my personal preference.) However, I do plan on continuing this series as soon as it is available. I would definitely recommend this to fantasy and mystery fans.
