I was really happy to be back in the world of Ferron and Arketta and back with the Good Luck Girls, this book kicks off around a year after its predecessor and Aster is looking to help more Good Luck Girls, and what an action packed book this is, I spent the entire book wishing and watching for the rebellion to win out, and some of the plot twists through me off but others I was completely there for and actually felt completely excited for. Plus that ending was absolutely wonderful, a great read! My only issue is that there are still a few grammatical and spelling errors that I had to repeat a few lines over a few times

A really solid follow-up to The Good Luck Girls, I found it to be a little more on the slow side but an engaging read nonetheless. I expected more of an explosive ending with more deaths, but our characters persevered.

Possible spoiler: I had a feeling Aster and Violet would end up together, but when it finally happened I was almost to tears. And Eli's acceptance of that was written so beautifully, as if the author was speaking to any LGBTQ+ reader.

I was nervous about being disappointed by the sequel after enjoying the first book so much, but this was just as good, honestly maybe even better. I would love to see more of the characters but I am completely satisfied by how things wrapped up.

Sometimes you read a book that feels like a perfect standalone, and then you see that there's a sequel, and you wonder, should I even bother?  What if it ruins everything that was so great about the first one?  For that reason, I was a little afraid to read this book, because I loved the first one so much.  Fortunately, this one more than measured up.  It's hard to say which one I liked better, but if nothing else, this was just as good.

I don't want to say too much, but what I will say is of all the YA I've read, I think this series engages the most maturely with revolution and oppression.  While it is certainly for and about teenagers, it doesn't simplify or talk down.  It is harsh and it is hard and it is dark, but it is also a fight worth making, and I absolutely loved the way it ended.

I do feel like we saw less of the original five in this one, and I wish we could have spent more time with Aster and Clementine's bond in particular.  However, I loved the new characters and what they brought (Raven in particular was a delight), and the way one particular relationship developed in this book, I know my teenage self would have lost her mind reading it.

I really wish more people would read these books because they are so damn good.  This is exactly the kind of book I wanted in high school, and still want now.  I can't wait to see what Charlotte Nicole Davis does next.

TW: racism, mentions of past sexual assault, slavery, death, sexual trauma

A strong sequel. Raven was brilliant trans character and there was so much parallel with today's struggles. I loved seeing women allowed to be strong, but vulnerable, and able to work through trauma.
