Rebecca Solnit has lived such an interesting life but on the page it is flat, dull, and lifeless. She has a few good insights, but these are few and far between in a book that is mostly just whining.
This book spoke to my soul, both my twenty-something self and now my fifty-something self. I listened to it on audio and am now rereading the print version. I will write more once I’ve had more time to reflect on this book. This is a reading experience that came to me at just the right time, which makes me so thankful.
Solnit on her own life, feminism as a learning curve, the importance of trying, how weird and lovely it is to be alive and go through things and learn. Really really nice meandering read. I expect nothing less from her.
Rebecca Solnit is wonderful at using words to paint vivid and memorable pictures, particularly at the beginning of this memoir. That said, I found some parts to be hard to follow and inconsistent.
„w tym systemie zawsze spotka cię kara, chyba ze sama wymierzysz sobie karę w postaci nieistnienia” ☠️
I have read several of Solnit's books and it has often been a rocky ride for me. This recollection of her life was brilliant, poignant, and important. I have much to learn about gender and the role I play.
I’ll always love Rebecca Solnit’s writing. The message of some of the essays—especially at the beginning of the book—felt like they got a little lost in the prose. But the latter two-thirds were impeccable.
